Cells at Work is one show that combines education with entertainment and an interesting plot. Much like the name suggests, it shows the life of different cells, what activities they perform on a regular day and how they deal with irregular happenings like injuries and diseases. With our protagonist, a new red blood cell, we begin our journey of transporting oxygen and minerals in the body. This also involves dealing with bacterial attacks, viral infections, and even severe diseases like cancer.

Each episode highlights how the body organizes its immune system and deals with pathogens of different kinds. However, this isn’t done like a typical boring lesson. Instead, we get each cell’s perspective, making it a much more immersive experience. Whether you have studied science or not, it is a fun watch nevertheless.

With that said, the anthropomorphic cells each have an outfit resembling their structure and functionality. This is partially the reason why these make some fun and witty costumes. So sit back and relax as we take you through some of our picks for cellular outfits that can also be worn as everyday clothing.

Red Blood Cell

The Red Blood Cell, also known as AE3803, is our main protagonist. Newly entering the bloodstream as an RBC, she is determined to deliver oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nutrients to the body. However, she is clumsy and tends to get lost all the time.

As she is inspired entirely by a body cell, her outfit carries many details that highlight her position as a red blood cell. She has short red hair and curious golden eyes. One of the prominent parts of her outfit is a red beanie. Immature RBCs are shown to have a pompom attached to their beanies which they lose before maturing. This is meant to signify the loss of the nucleus when a red blood cell matures

The Red Blood Cell also wears a red jacket, a black shirt, blue shorts, and black socks with red shoes. She has a cheerful and energetic personality. This outfit is quite easy to put together and has a slight change version for the cold atmosphere. In cold weather, the Red Blood Cells unfold their sleeves. Then, they zip up their jackets so they can continue delivering the packages across the body.

White Blood Cell – Neutrophil Division

White Blood Cell, or U-1146, is also one of the main characters in the story. He is introduced as the body’s main line of defense. He has an ashen, almost white complexion owing to the fact that white blood cells do not have any pigment and are hence colorless. As he doesn’t have a name, we will refer to him as U-1164 for now. U-1146 wears a complete white standard combat uniform designated for the neutrophil division. The outfit consists of a white cap, jacket, pants, and long white boots.

Due to his strict training, White Blood Cell has a well-built physique. While he mainly uses a dagger to clear out microbes, he also uses brute strength when the need arrives. He is primarily shown to have an expressionless face. Still, he is friendly towards the Red Blood Cell and often gives her survival advice. He has white hair cut short with his bangs covering his right eye.

Killer T Cell

Killer T Cells are also White Blood Cells; however, these are the Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes based under the Killer T division. As a result, they are not usually seen with the neutrophil division and come separately to deal with the situation. Unlike the extremely pale white blood cells, the killer T cells have a more human-like appearance.

They have a bulky physiques with blonde hair and slightly tanned skin. The Killer T Cell is shown wearing a standard black uniform for the Killer T Division. It consists of a black vest and pants, along with black boots. He also wears a black cap that says “Kill,” just like the other cells from the White Blood Cell family.

After he fights a cancer cell, he becomes a memory cell, but that does not change his appearance. The only thing that changes is his cap.

Macrophage

Macrophage is a recurring character in Cells at Work. She has a motherly and somewhat doll-like appearance. These cells have multiple vital roles but first, let’s check out their cute outfits. The first appearance shows Macrophage as an adult woman with a kind expression and a very skin-colored outfit. She wears a frilly pink cap and a long light pink and white dress with ruffled lace at the hem.

Macrophage also changes appearance when she is patrolling the body as a monocyte. She wears a fully covered yellow suit along with some equipment over her usual outfit. These gentle cells also play the role of teachers or nannies for young or immature cells, helping them in their development.

If you like the Macrophage’s motherly personality and overall responsibilities, this can be a fun cosplay option. You will need a strawberry blonde hair wig so you can get the loose ponytail hairstyle.

Platelets Kesshoban

Platelets are probably the cutest characters in the show. These little ones are shown as cute kids wearing what looks like elementary school uniforms with long shirts, light brown shorts, and slightly long rain boots. In the Japanese dub, these are called “kesshoban” and have a leader, a young girl. She also wears whitish grey caps with the label “Keshoban” written on the front. The leader of the Keshoban has golden brown hair and brown eyes.

For the most part, platelets are also shown carrying pink baskets decorated with hearts. They use these baskets to carry coagulants so they can form a blood clot whenever an injury occurs. This simple costume is a fun, comfortable choice if you want to do a kid’s cosplay.

Helper T Cells

These cells are also white blood cells but have a different role to play. The main Helper T cell is an anthropomorphic male. He has an average build, brown hair, silver eyes, and a friendly expression. He is shown wearing a commander uniform that consists of a white shirt, light olive-colored pants, a black belt, red and white striped socks, and brown office shoes. Helper T Celler also wears dark-rimmed glasses.

As a strategist of white blood cells, it is his task to plan and organize attacks against any foreign substances. He previously studied alongside the Killer T Cell, and the two have a rivalry relation. For a strong, commanding character cosplay, consider dressing as the Helper T Cell.

Regulatory T Cells

These cells probably have the most fanciest costume in the entire show. As part of the White Blood Cells, her task is to regulate the activities of other cells. She looks like a beautiful office lady wearing a dark green mini coat with a light olive dress shirt and a dark green pencil skirt that reaches just above her knees. She also wears grey leggings and dark green coat shoes.

Her dark blonde hair is styled in a bun with the bangs on the front. Her hair is also styled on the sides of her face, where it ends in curls. For her hairstyle, you may need to pick a wig. She also wears black headphones and is often seen carrying a clipboard. For an office look, this is definitely a costume that you should consider.

Memory Cell

He is shown as a cell with messy raven locks as well as black eyes. Although he is a minor character in the anime, his role is essential nevertheless. His outfit consists of a black shirt, a greyish vest buttoned in the front, and a purple tie tucked in the vest. This is paired with matching grey slacks and black office shoes like the helper T cells.

Despite being a memory cell, he is often worried and troubled when remembering things, as he is scatterbrained. His constant overthinking often makes it difficult for him to do his job properly. On top of that, he tends to predict cell deaths, even going so far as to claim that the world is in danger. Due to this negative mindset, he often panics whenever an invasion occurs.

His panic is often intended for comedy purposes; however, this is also just a part of his role.

Cancer Cell

One of the more serious episodes of the series introduced us to Cancer Cells. He has the ability to disguise himself as a regular body cell. He, therefore, goes undetected through the body’s immune system. All normal cells in the body have black hair and wear a plain white shirt that says “cell” and black pants. When in disguise, the cancer cell also looks and behaves like those cells.

However, in his real form, his hair is white, and he has a dark sclera with bloodshot eyes. His appearance also has bulging veins to show that he is not a normal cell. When on the offensive, he also has blue and red tentacle-like things appear on his shoulder and arms. For a bio-related villain cosplay, a cancer cell is a great option.

Eosinophil

Eosinophil is introduced as a type of white blood cell; however, unlike Hakkekyuu, she is shown to be shy and timid. She wears a pink jacket with front pockets, red lining, and a red belt at the waist. She also wears the same colored pants paired with long, dark brown shoes laced up, reaching just below her knees. She wears a pink and light skin colored cap.

Eosinophil has light blonde hair tied in two low ponytails. Her eyes are golden, and she has a pale complexion. She also carries something that looks like a bident or pitchfork.

B-Cells

While these cells only appeared for a short time in the show, they certainly added to the costume choices. B-Cells are the cells that create antibodies to fight off microbes and diseases. They are depicted as having slightly wavy brown hair and wearing blue overalls with a big hose and a tank which is where antibodies are stored.

He does not like being ignored and likes to be showered with praise instead. He is also very confident in his ability and often laughs in the face of danger. He wears white sneakers and grey gloves.
